8 campomoche
( campamocha [kampamót∫a]; of uncertain origin, probably from Nahuatl campa-mo-chan 'where your house is' via Spanish). California: 1919. Bentley references this term as an insect known as a 'praying mantis' ( Mantis religiosa), so called because its folded wings resemble a clerical garment and its front two legs resemble hands clasped in prayer. The insect is also known as the "praying insect," "devil's horse." The term campomoche is also applied to a smaller green or gray-colored insect with a sticklike body, sometimes called a "walking-stick." The walking-stick is difficult to distinguish from the plants that it inhabits, and it is said to be fatal to cattle when they ingest it along with grass. Islas confirms that the insect is poisonous and kills numerous cattle in Chihuahua, Mexico, when they accidentally eat it. Santamaría references campamocha as an orthopterous insect of the mantis family that deposits its eggs in a multicolored capsule that is also called a campamocha. He provides the genus and species Stagmomantis limbata. Cobos indicates that the campamocha is the common praying mantis. Islas and Cabrera describe a different insect that blends in with foliage because of its sticklike appearance. -

¿As, like o how?
He entered as an office-boy, as his father had twenty years before.
Cuando como va seguido de un sustantivo o pronombre también puedes usar like para comparar dos acciones o situaciones: Es como su padre. He's just like his father. Sin embargo, si va seguido de una preposición, hay que usar as: En marzo, como en abril, llovió. In March, as in April, it rained.
Nunca debes usar how en comparaciones, porque sólo expresa la manera de hacer las cosas: ¿Cómo lo hiciste?, How did you do it?

19 carajo
(Sp. model spelled same [karáxo], of uncertain origin. Cognate terms exist in Spanish, French, and Galician)1) Clark: 1840s. A strong expletive used especially by Mexicans to express disgust or frustration.2) A base fellow, or one who would use an expletive like carajo. Often applied derisively to mule drivers, cowboys, outdoor workers, and Mexicans.3) DARE: 1880. In the Southwest, "the tall, upright stem [of the maguey plant], used as a goad" or walking stick. Blevins suggests that the stem of the maguey received this name because of its similarity to the virile member.Alternate forms: caracho pole, carajo pole.4) As a verb, meaning to use the expletive. The DRAE concurs with definition (1). The other three are not attested to in most Spanish sources, but derive from (1). Santamaría describes it as an expletive with folkloric color used in Spain as well as Latin America. It is very common and has prompted the creation of a number of euphemisms, including carancho, caramba, carache, and caray. Sobarzo concurs with this definition and adds that carajo can be used to refer to a malevolent, perverse, or base individual.Alternate form: caraho. -
